Bible Prophecy

Ezekiel 38, Part I: Turkey

The Bible prophecy of Ezekiel 38 says Turkey will participate in an attack on Israel in the end times.

Recent events in Turkey have further molded that nation into a form that perfectly fits the scenario of Ezekiel 38.

Turkey was the first Muslim-majority nation to recognize the State of Israel. This happened in 1949, the year following Israel’s re-establishment as a nation in 1948. Turkey and Israel became allies, and enjoyed mutual alliances with the West.

In the Bible, the 38th Chapter of Ezekiel mentions a coalition of nations that will attack Israel after the Jews have been regathered from the nations, and brought back to their land. Among the members of this coalition are four strange names: Meshech, Tubal, Gomer, and Togarmah.

Those names do not ring familiar today. However, when we look at the areas formerly called Mesheck, Tubal, Gomer, and Togarmah, and compare it to a map of that area today, what we get is astounding!

Map of ancient turkey above map of modern turkey

By comparing an old map with a modern one, we see that modern-day Turkey consists of the Biblical lands of Gomer and Togarmah (at a minimum).

From these maps, we see that in Ezekiel 38, God is clearly telling us that Turkey will be among the coalition of nations that will attack Israel in the end times. But wait! Wasn’t Turkey the first Muslim-majority nation to recognize the State of Israel? Yes. Wasn’t Turkey an ally of Israel? Yes. So what happened? Simple, the Bible is always proven true. No political winds or national alliances will violate the Word of God. God tells us that we can know he is God because he tells us the history of Israel before it happens. In Isaiah, God actually challenges any other “god” to step up and do the same thing!

Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people [the Jewish people], and what is yet to come — yes, let him foretell what will come. – Isaiah 44:7

No other religious book on earth attempts this kind of bold prophecy, much less gets it right 100% of the time.

The idea of Turkey attacking Israel was almost laughable for most of the 64 years that Israel has been back in her land– but no more!

Turkey has turned seethingly anti-Israel over the past few years. In 2011, Turkey expelled Israel’s ambassador, and Turkey’s F-16 fighter jets are now programmed to see Israeli fighter jets as foes rather than friends.

Turkey will fulfill its role in the Ezekiel 38 attack on Israel! Bank on it!

The Bible is always proven true, and God demonstrates his reliability to us everyday on the world stage. He wants to show us we can believe him, so that we believe him when he says:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – Jesus Christ, John 3:16

“…I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – Jesus Christ, John 14:6

Ezekiel 38 in its entirety:

The word of the LORD came to me: “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army — your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops — the many nations with you.

“‘Get ready; be prepared, you and all the hordes gathered about you, and take command of them. After many days you will be called to arms. In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and now all of them live in safety. You and all your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.

“‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On that day thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil scheme. You will say, “I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people — all of them living without walls and without gates and bars. I will plunder and loot and turn my hand against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock and goods, living at the center of the land.” Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all her villages will say to you, “Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder?” ‘

“Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: In that day, when my people Israel are living in safety, will you not take notice of it? You will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army. You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In days to come, O Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I show myself holy through you before their eyes.

“‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Are you not the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel? At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them. This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign LORD. In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign LORD. Every man’s sword will be against his brother. I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’

  1. I realy enjoy your description about the statue of Daniel, and I change my view in my church about this teaching. But I have a question: What or who are the 10 toes if we consider that the legs are the revived Ottoman Empire ?

Thank you for your exposition on that subject!

    God bless your works!

    Pastor Frédéric Gauthier Nicaragua

    • Pastor, thank you for the kind words! I believe the ten toes are ten nations (or regions) that will either fall militarily to, or willingly submit to, the revived Ottoman Empire.

For example, Iraq and Syria are likely to fall militarily and come under control of Turkey. North Africa west of Egypt is likely to submit and go willingly. Egypt, as I see it, will not go willingly and will fall militarily to Turkey.

He [the Antichrist] will extend his power over many countries [this “many” will include the ten nations or regions comprising the ten toes]; Egypt will not escape. He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt, with the Libyans [North Africa west of Egypt] and Nubians [North Africa south of Egypt, i.e., Northern Sudan and Somalia] in submission. ~ Daniel 11:42-43

That’s how I see it, but I welcome any further suggestions, elaboration, or correction. Iron sharpens iron.

Thank you, and God bless you and your work for the Lord!

      • Thank you for your reply. This verses you gave me put more light on my question. I have more questions.

1- Is it possible that the last week of Daniel or the book of revelation including (the mark of the beast, martyr, war) will be mainly happened on the specific area i.e. Israel, Turkey, Irak, Syria etc. but could have a direct effect on other country around the world also ?

My point here is when I look at the other judgement of God in the past exemple: Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah 10 plagues of Egypt, They are concentrate on the specific spot WITH direct consequences around. For example, I don’t see how a chip by Obama Care will make lost salvation or even prevent salvation to people. Here in Nicaragua we don’t have nothing implement to make that chip will be work. But if you have the Name of Allah as a bandhead and if you plead your allegiance to him; now I can see how you will go right away in hell. I would like to have your thought about this! (BTW I will never accept both of the mark mention above).

2- My position of the rapture is Pre-Wrath rapture. I think, this is what you believe also. I would like to know if you think that the WW3 ( Israel, Turkey, Irak, Syria etc.) represent the seal number 2, or you put this war in the armageddon ?

I’m glad God put this teaching in my way you are and answer to my prayer. I was beleive before of a Pre-Trib rapture, I was beleive before of the revive roman Empire and the antichrist from europe but more I was reading my Bible more I was confuse. Now That I have this new perspective everything fit perfectly….

God bless you brother continue your research.

      • Pastor,

Thank you for the additional questions.

I do believe that during the 70th week of Daniel (which includes the Great Tribulation), Satan will focus his demonic energy on the Middle East. We see this energy building up right now. Christians are being slaughtered all over the Middle East at an increasing rate. Jews in Israel are being vilified and marginalized at an increasing rate. Both the Bible, and the historical templates God gives us, show that the Great Tribulation will be Middle Eastern Centric:

This is contrary to the popular teaching in many Protestant churches in the Americas which say that the Antichrist will rule the entire world. He will NOT rule the entire world!

In fact, sir, I am convinced that God is reinforcing the United States with Latinos from Central America, South America, and Mexico. As Europe drowns in a sea of Muslim immigrants who deny that Jesus is the Son of God, and deny that God is a Father, the U.S. gets flooded with Catholic immigrants who accept the fact that Jesus is the Son of God, and accept the fact that God is a Father.

The Spanish did their job centuries ago by bringing their Bibles and their crosses to what is today called Latin America. A crucial verse in these times is 1 John 2:22.

Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist — he denies the Father and the Son. ~ 1 John 2:22

Latinos (by and large) do not deny that Jesus is the Son of God, and that God is a Father. In fact, most of them bless themselves “in the name of the FATHER, and of the SON, and of the Holy Spirit.” Meanwhile, denying the Sonship of Jesus Christ is a central tenet of Islam, showing that it is an evil force.

I will answer your remaining questions by tomorrow morning. I want to give them some careful thought and research.

I have been blessed by this conversation. I look forward to continuing!

        Blessings, and thank you!

  2. Pastor,

When the Middle-Eastern-Centric events of Daniel’s 70th week happen, they will indeed affect other nations around the world. Let me be even more specific. I believe the U.S. (a Christian nation, and the most powerful nation in the history of the planet) will sit idly by as persecution of Jews and Christians increases in the Middle East. The U.S. (and most of the world) will appease Turkey/ISIS/Muslim Brotherhood as it swallows territory and destroys God’s people (Jews and Christians). This appeasement will bring “peace” just as it did prior to WWII when Chamberlain waved the treaty signed by Hitler.

And through his [the Antichrist] policy also he shall cause craft [deception] to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and BY PEACE SHALL DESTROY MANY… ~ Daniel 8:25

I believe this deception will last until the Antichrist (in his pride, arrogance, and hubris) attacks the USA.

He [the Antichrist] will attack the mightiest fortresses [the U.S. has the mightiest military in the history of the planet, by far] with the help of a foreign god [Allah]… ~ Daniel 11:39

Just as the U.S. did nothing to stop the Nazis prior to WWII, they will do nothing to stop the revived Ottoman Empire prior to WWIII. Because the U.S. did not make straight paths for the Lord and help the Jews prior to WWII, God permitted Pearl Harbor. That finally woke us up and was the hooks God put in our jaws to drag us into WWII and destroy those who were destroying the Jews. The Pearl Harbor of WWIII, I believe, is foretold right there in Daniel 11:39– “He will attack the mightiest fortresses.”

So, I do believe that the events of Daniel’s 70th week are Middle-Eastern-Centric, but I also believe that God placed the nations of the world strategically to respond. The other regions of the world will not feel the heat that the mideast feels, but they will not be unaffected by the conflict, nor will they have no effect upon the conflict. They will be affected by, and have an effect upon, the mideast conflict. Here are two examples: The U.S. and Nicaragua.

The U.S. (and Nicaragua) are in the new world for a reason– to protect them from invasion by the likes of Hitler and the coming Caliphs. The U.S. shares a (porous and basically non-existent) border with Latin America for a reason, to be replenished by souls already evangelized to acknowledge the Father and Son. Keep on evangelizing those Nicaraguans. If any of your congregants decide to come to the U.S., we need them to be Christians by the time they get here!

And I do believe the events of the Second Seal in Revelation are WWIII, and possibly the slaughter of Christians leading up to it (which we are seeing ISIS do every night on the evening news).

Like you, I hold to the pre-wrath position. The pre-trib rapture is nowhere in the Bible. I say that with such confidence because after I read the Bible cover to cover, I scratched my head because I had heard so much about the pre-trib rapture, but had not seen it in the Bible. I have asked pre-trib Christians and pre-trib pastors to show it to me in the Bible, and not one of them has done it. Most just refuse to even try, and then change the topic of conversation. The rapture will be pre-wrath. I have become familiar with the term “pre-wrath” over the past year or so. One of these days, I will go and change my “post-trib” references on this website to “pre-wrath.”

Finally, I do believe that the bismallah headband (and armband) are the mark of the beast. Up here in the U.S., we have the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) targeting political conservatives and Evangelical Christians for persecution. This kind of targeted persecution will certainly increase with an Obamacare chip, but ultimately, in God’s eyes, I believe the primary mark is that headband (and/or armband) with its creed of allegiance to Allah. I am inspired by your assertion that you will take neither the chip nor the headband! I too, will take neither!

    Blessings, and thank you!

    • I have very carefully studied Hebrew and Greek for many years. When I read Ezekiel 38 I can see that some have not seen a Hebrew word that shows Turkey is NOT meant in this prophecy as the prime or lead nation attacker of Israel in the latter days! It is missed in the KJV. “And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts…” The aggressor’s land “place” which means where one stands or lives ;it’ s their country. Heb. So we know from Hebrew that the leader Gog is from and lives in a certain “place.” Next and the MOST important word or” miyarkete” translated simply as “north parts” in our KJV. In Hebrew it means from the: extreme; uttermost; furthest ends ; the acme; farthest; remotest; ultimate; ultra or outermost. So Ezekiel under inspiration says that this northern country ‘or ‘north parts’ where Gog dwells is as far as one can measure as to distance from Israel! Is Turkey to the north of Israel? Yes! Is Russia to the north of Israel yes; but it’s ‘EXTREME northern’ position agrees with Ezekiel our inspired prophet as being to the ‘extreme or farthest north’ of Israel which Turkey is NOT! As it says” EVERY WORD” of God is inspired as to Hebrew and Greek-not English or the KJB! English theology can led one astray.
the best claimant for this northern adversary of Israel is Russia.
I spoke to a lady who grew up in Israel. She was taught by orthodox rabbis when she was a student that the” Russian bear” in the’ latter times’ will come from the extreme north to ‘attack Israel.’
Getting our theology and facts from maps that can be capricious and subject to speculation, prejudices ,etc.,of the author. They are NOT the Word of God.

      • To that I say that getting our theology and facts from “a lady who grew up in Israel” can be capricious and subject to speculation, prejudices, etc. They are NOT the Word of God.
Furthermore, when the Bible speaks of ancient kingdoms ruling over the “whole earth,” did they literally rule over the “whole earth” or only rule over the Biblical lands? They ruled over the Biblical lands only. They did not rule over Cleveland or Honduras, even though the Bible says they ruled over the “whole earth.” Likewise, in the language of the Bible, the “farthest north” parts are Turkey, not Russia.
No less an authority than Jesus Christ himself tells us in Revelation that Satan has his throne in Pergamum, which is in Turkey. Yet we insist on moving it to Russia or Rome because we know better than Jesus. “To the angel of the church in Pergamum [which is in Turkey] write… I know where you live — where Satan has his throne… in your city — where Satan lives.” ~ Revelation 2:12-13. Jesus dictated not one, not two, not three, but SEVEN letters to churches in modern-day Turkey. He is figuratively jumping up and down, waving his hands, and screaming for us to keep our eye on Turkey in the latter days, but we instead look to Russia and Rome. Poor Jesus.

      • * Pergamum WAS the throne of Satan THEN ,yes but it changed. John made pronouncements for THAT time; it doesn’t mean it was forever as to where Satan based his operations.
This site I linked here sees things differently.* FYI only.

One thing I do agree with Satan’s’ throne’ changed. That city is in RUINS today! Cows and sheep roam about the ruins and vicinity. At one time it could be said his throne was in Eden the garden of God too. Ezekiel 28;Isa.14 Then Satan’s throne or center of operations (even though he told the Lord ‘I am going up and down the earth’ in job 1-2 he is universal) changed AFTER the Flood to the tower of Babel where Nimrod wanted to lead a one world government and was the first one to have as to reputation and fame the spirit of antichrist. They had a universal false religion. Then the Lord came down a changed their speech or language and they were scattered. Later Babylon was his seat for a time too then it fell. It or Babylon was the Head of gold in Daniel’s dream.
Daniel says Satan’s antichrist his ‘son of perdition’ will arise in EUROPE finally consolidating his power with three then finally ten nations or former nation belonging to the old Roman empire. The Roman empire will be ‘revived’ and have a revived Emperor once again according to Daniel’s ten’ toes’ dream with last world power being Rome, but D says it will arise once again through the ten toes or nations. Satan’s seat or throne has changed. It has to change as nations rise and fall as God dictates-not Satan. He has to flee and set up office as the Lord dictates or decrees. Rev.13:2;16:17 cf 17:1-18.

      • Oh okay, they changed it. Well that settles it. How silly of me. Jesus dictates SEVEN letters to Turkey in a book that specifically draws our attention to end times events, but because the words of the Son of God do not agree with the completely unBiblical traditions of men, we simply say that Jesus “changed” things. Oy vey Doctor.
