One of the remarkable, no, miraculous attributes of the Catholic Church is the longevity of its moral teaching and its traditions. While the Protestant denominations (none of which are more than 500 years old) have fallen like dominoes, caving in to secular culture and officially blessing unbiblical behaviors, the Catholic Church has not changed its moral teaching in 2,000 years, holding fast and firm even to seemingly outdated (but completely Biblical) doctrines such as forbidding birth control and divorce. Less than a hundred years ago, the Protestant denominations forbade birth control too, but not anymore. And that’s not to even mention the more far afield moral aberrations officially blessed by many Protestant denominations today.
200 Years vs. 2,000 Years
In fact, one would be hard-pressed to find Protestant churches that teach the same morality today as they taught just 200 years ago, let alone 2,000 years ago like the Catholic Church. Even if one could find Protestant churches teaching the same morality today as they taught 200 years ago, I believe that Protestant history demonstrates that if we simply wait a few more decades, or a century at most, those churches too will abandon their morality. But the Catholic Church never waivers– never has, and never will.
This is a miraculous marker from God (as is the Catholic Church’s Holy-Spirit-Led selection, guarding, and flawless transmission of the written and spoken Word of God through the centuries). I suggest that no Protestant church on earth has these markers. God will never leave nor forsake His Church.
An Ingenious System
God has designed into the Catholic Church an ingenious system of checks and balances that assure continuity of teaching through the centuries and millenia. This system involves three support legs: 1) Sacred Scripture (the Bible), 2) Sacred Tradition (the oral preaching of the Apostles), 3) The Magisterium (the teaching authority of the Catholic Church, through which the Holy Spirit selected the 27 books of your New Testament). Protestantism meanwhile adheres to the principle of Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone), which leaves Protestantism balancing precariously (in my opinion) on just one of these legs, Sacred Scripture. Balancing awkwardly on just one leg, Protestant denominations are blown and tossed by cultural winds (Cf. James 1:6).
The Plant, The Splint, And The Gardener
Sacred Tradition is the splint along which the plant of Sacred Scripture travels a straight path through the centuries just as a plant grows straight along a straight wooden splint. Scripture has been completely delivered to us, and is unchanging, but the way successive generations understand Scripture will change unless that understanding is guided by an infallible method, an infallible splint. That method, that splint, is Sacred Tradition. The gardener making sure that Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition grow straight, side-by-side, through the centuries and millenia, is the Magisterium, the teaching authority of the Catholic Church.
Wild Garden, Wild Plant
Having jettisoned Sacred Tradition and the Magisterium, the plant of Sacred Scripture grows wildly and unpredictably in Protestant gardens. As such, many Protestant denominations have officially blessed the ordination of female pastors, and more will follow. Meanwhile the stodgy, ancient, stick-in-the-mud, no fun, outdated, obsolete, stubborn Catholic Church refuses to budge. It uses its Magisterium to verify Sacred Scripture against Sacred Tradition, and Sacred Tradition against Sacred Scripture, and conclude that Jesus chose male Apostles, and since Catholic Bishops are successors of those Apostles, and Catholic Bishops come from Catholic priests, Catholic priests must be male.
Catholic Priesthood As Target
And this, my friends, is one of the ultimate targets of the Leftist attempt to erase gender in Western society. (The other is the erasure of Western manhood so that Leftism and its ally, Islamism, can overtake the Christian West with minimal resistance.) Leftism and Satanism are synonymous terms. The gender neutrality battle the Left wages in our headlines everyday is merely effect. The gender neutrality battle Satan wages everyday in the spiritual/demonic realm is cause. Satan hates the Church, and is driving society to erase gender because he knows the Catholic Church will not be moved in its commitment to male priests.
The wagons are being circled. Soon we will hear the cry of fake righteous indignation: “How dare you demand male priests when there’s no so thing as male! Gender is neutral!” It is at this point that the force of law will be brought to bear on Catholic officials, persecuting them.
When morning came, he [Jesus] called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:
- Simon (whom he named Peter)
- his [Simon’s] brother Andrew
- James son of Alphaeus
- Simon who was called the Zealot
- Judas son of James
- and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor
~ Luke 6:13-16
All twelve Apostles were male, so Catholic priests will remain male.
The Bible is always proven true.
I hope and pray that this article, and all my articles, are a source of constructive dialogue among my Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox Christian brethren. I truly appreciate you reading, especially if you disagree with my views. I have Jesus-devoted friends, folks that are the lifeblood of America, and the salt of the earth, and near-and-dear to my heart, in all three branches of Christianity. My goal is a gracious but honest dialogue. God bless you all, and thank you for reading.
