The New Testament word “witchcraft” is from the Greek word “pharmakeia”
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. ~ Galatians 5:19-21
Remember, the New Testament was originally written in Greek. The English word “witchcraft” is translated from the Greek word “pharmakeia.”
pharmakeia (far-mak-i’-ah); medication (“pharmacy“), i.e. (by extension) magic (literally or figuratively): KJV – sorcery, witchcraft. ~ Strong’s Concordance [“Pharmakeia” comes from the Greek word “pharmakeus.”]
pharmakeus (far-mak-yoos’); from pharmakon (a drug, i.e. spell-giving potion); a druggist (“pharmacist”) or poisoner, i.e. (by extension) a magician. ~ Strong’s Concordance
One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Ecclesiastes 1:9.
What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. ~ Ecclesiastes 1:9
Yesterday’s witches and sorcerers are succeeded by today’s drug dealers.
I am not referring to doctors who legally prescribe medication necessary for physical or emotional ailments. I am referring to people supplying drugs for abuse. Nor am I limiting witchcraft and sorcery to drug dealing. It also includes curses and other demonic activity. But drug dealers supply to their customers an element of witchcraft and sorcery (mind-altering substances) sufficient to open doors to the demonic realm. And because the Left has scrubbed our formerly Christian culture clean of all Biblical orientation (and the Right has allowed it), neither the drug dealer or his customer has a clue that they are playing with demonic fire. Demons want possession of your body in this life, and destruction of your soul in the next.
The physical realm is connected to the spiritual realm, just as your computer is connected to the internet. Physical clicks on your mouse or keyboard take you to virtual worlds of your choosing on the internet– some good, some evil. Physical clicks on your body’s mouse and keyboard (the senses) take you to spiritual worlds of your choosing– some angelic, some demonic.
Do Not Open
Drugs are not the only door to the demonic. Pornography is too. So are Ouija boards, seances, fortune telling, and astrology.
Demonic Doors In Pop Culture
Demonic doors are also opened by today’s pop-culture craze of wizard fantasies (the most prominent of which is a book and movie series so wildly popular that it’s not even necessary for me to name it here), as well as zombie and vampire fantasies. With today’s demonic pop-culture influences, I believe that many children will have serious demonic oppression and possession issues that will be misdiagnosed throughout their lives as psychological ailments by doctors whose secular educations have been scrubbed of all references to God, Satan, and the spiritual realm.
I Will Meditate On Your Wonders
Another wildly popular trend today is Yoga. Yoga exposes its Western participants to the Eastern demons with which Yoga originates. Yoga is not just another secular exercise craze.
Theism, spirituality, or meditation based upon a religion other than the Judeo-Christian religion is demonic.
We are not to expose our minds to the dangers of the demonic. We are to expose our minds to the safety of the angelic, the Godly. We are to consider the things of God, and think about them, and dwell on them, and study them, and meditate upon them.
I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. ~ Psalm 119:15
…your servant will meditate on your decrees. ~ Psalm 119:23
…I will meditate on your wonders. ~ Psalm 119:27
…I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. ~ Psalm 143:5
Just Say No
Getting back to the topic of drugs, think about how many headlines you’ve seen or stories you’ve heard in which someone was high on drugs and did something horrific– killed someone in a rage or because of hallucinations. Think of how many people (maybe people you know) have become enslaved to drugs and the demons these drugs summon. As Bob Dylan sang, “you’re gonna have to serve somebody. It may be the devil and it might be the Lord, but you’re gonna have to serve somebody.”
Since you gotta serve somebody, it may as well be the one who served you on the cross. It is His Spirit with whom you should strive to fill yourself. Notice that I wrote “with whom” you should strive to fill yourself, not “with which” you should strive to fill yourself. God’s Spirit is a person, the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. Just as God became man in the form of Jesus Christ, and just as the Holy Spirit indwells the bodies of Christians, so demonic spirits imitate and mock this incarnation and these indwellings by possessing bodies.
Because of a sharp uptick in demonic activity in recent years, the Catholic Church in 2004 mandated that each diocese in the world assign a priest to be an exorcist. These exorcists have harrowing tales, including the fact that levitation is not just a Hollywood embellishment, but an actual occurrence in some possessions.
Don’t open the demonic door. Just say no.
That’s The Spirit!
Again, the New Testament word rendered in English as “witchcraft” is translated from the Greek word “pharmakeia.” Drugs and witchcraft are inseparably linked. But I want to point out another link between a mind-altering substance and the spiritual realm. In fact, this link is so well-hidden in plain sight that many of us see it daily without realizing it each time we pass by a store advertising “Wine & Spirits.” It is wise to remember that the word “spirits” is linked with alcohol.
To be sure, Jesus turned water into wine, and wine is an integral part of the Passover meal which Jesus himself celebrated, and which he commanded us to celebrate (the bread and wine of the Eucharist) in His memory. There is no Biblical prohibition on alcohol. But given the destruction that comes from alcohol abuse, we should all use caution. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t drink to escape your problems. With drinking, less is more. Drink less, be blessed more. The more you drink, the closer you come to the edge of a cliff. Demons are waiting for you there, and they want nothing more than to push you off. Note that the word “drunkenness” is included right there with the word “witchcraft” in the passage of Scripture (Galatians 5:19-21) with which I opened this article.
Not By Faith Alone ~ James 2:24
The passage with which I opened this article is a warning from Paul. In it, he lists witchcraft and drunkenness among several other vices that will prevent us from inheriting the kingdom of God. Here is the last part of verse 21, which I saved for the end of this article.
…I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. ~ Galatians 5:21
I implore my dear Protestant brothers and sisters to see the direct contradiction between that verse and the Protestant doctrine of “Sola Fide” (salvation by faith alone). We do not inherit the kingdom of God by faith alone. Sola Fide is an invention of the Protestant Reformation which came 1500 years after Christ. The church that Christ launched (the Catholic Church) had never believed in faith alone, and does not to this day. If we have faith, yet still live a life of the vices mentioned by Paul, we do not inherit the kingdom. Behavior counts, so don’t open demonic doors.
The Bible is always proven true.
